to the then Secretary of State for the Colonies a request for a refund of my passage money and by a letter No. 573 of 1883 such request was granted.
At that time the post of Police magistrate in this Colony was vacant and I applied for the same; I had made up my mind that if the Colonial office would not grant such application I should resign my appointment of Clerk to the Chief Justice. Under these circumstances I delayed drawing my passage money which had been granted.
As I have before stated, until the result of my application for the Police Magistracy should be made known. After waiting for some five months and having reason to believe that the Colonial office was not inclined to give me the magistracy, I resigned my appointment of Clerk to the Chief Justice in August 1883. In December of the same year the appointment of Police magistrate was offered to me and I accepted it.
